92 Bauhaus Museum in Weimar

92 Bauhaus Museum in Weimar

The Bauhaus – a school for art, architecture, design, and stagecraft – was founded in 1919 in Weimar, where it remained until 1925.

Characteristic of the Bauhaus was its practice-oriented, craft-based artistic education and the collaborative teamwork between teachers and students.

The artistic faculty included internationally renowned artists such as Feininger, Itten, Kandinsky, Klee, and Marcks.

Following the motto of founding director Walter Gropius, „Art and technology – a new unity,“ the State Bauhaus became the most significant school of design in the 20th century.

Its ideas remain highly relevant today worldwide.

The Klassik Stiftung Weimar owns one of the largest Bauhaus collections in the world.

The objects exhibited in the Bauhaus Museum illustrate the school’s diversity, creativity, and vibrancy.

Design classics, such as the table lamp by Jucker/Wagenfeld, which is still produced today, demonstrate the transition from handcrafted one-of-a-kind pieces to the development of industrial prototypes, beginning in 1923.

The museum also highlights the predecessors and successors of the Bauhaus in Weimar.
