9 Goethe’s Garden House in Weimar
9 Goethe’s Garden House in Weimar
In one of the most charming urban residence gardens, in the heart of the classical city of Weimar, you will find the legendary Garden House, which Duke Carl August acquired for Goethe in 1776.
Until his move to the house at Frauenplan in 1782, the renowned poet resided in the Garden House continuously and played a direct role in the transformation of the park into an English-style landscape garden.
Grow as if from my heart, reach into the air, for I have buried much joy and sorrow beneath your roots.
Even later, Goethe spent hours, days, and weeks in his beloved retreat to escape the bustle of the Weimar court.
Today, the Garden House is a museum where visitors can view personal items and everyday objects from Goethe’s time.
