86 Bismarck Tower in Hildburghausen
86 Bismarck Tower in Hildburghausen
On the 496-meter-high Stadtberg, south of Hildburghausen, stands the Bismarck Tower.
A Hildburghausen artist was commissioned by the Beautification Association to design a lookout tower.
The 15-meter-high tower was completed in 1882.
On the occasion of the 90th birthday of the former Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck, it was named Bismarck Tower in 1905.
For a long time, the plateau of Stadtberg was a restricted area, as a radar station for Soviet airspace surveillance was located there.
Predominantly private donations enabled the renovation of the tower in 1997.
Since October 3, 1998, the observation platform has been accessible again, allowing visitors to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the region.
