73 Point Alpha Border Museum near Geisa – „House on the Border“
The Point Alpha memorial is located on the Thuringian-Hessian border, between the Thuringian town of Geisa and the Hessian town of Rasdorf.
Situated amidst nature reserves, this historic site with its authentic buildings and facilities from the former US Army base serves as a reminder of Germany’s division and the horrors of the Cold War.
For over four decades, the NATO and Warsaw Pact outposts faced each other across Rasdorfer Berg.
The entire complex is an unparalleled historical witness, intended to remember and impact visitors.
In 1995, the entire site was placed under monument protection.
The „Grenzmuseum Rhön Point Alpha e.V.“ was founded in the same year and began developing the current memorial, with significant support from the Thuringian state government.
In the „House on the Border,“ which features approximately 600 square meters of exhibition space, the impact of the border regime on both people and nature is depicted.
In the attic, the Rhön Biosphere Reserve provides information about the flora and fauna in the current area of the „Green Belt.“
