71 The Old Post Office in Bad Liebenstein
71 The Old Post Office in Bad Liebenstein
Decades before the founding of the Liebenstein post office, there was only a simple postal service.
At that time, the postal route ran from Eisenach through Waldfisch, Witzelroda, and Barchfeld, ascending the Werra Valley.
In 1895, a new, charming post office building was constructed in the Henneberg timber-framed style, located in a prime traffic area between the old Sauerborn and Grumbach.
This building remains an attractive feature of the town to this day.
A distinctive feature of Henneberg timber framing is the curved, often decorated timber crosses, also known as St. Andrew’s crosses.
Notably, this style was not limited to the houses or buildings of common people but was also used in the architecture of churches, town halls, administrative buildings, and even castles and palaces.
The spa town and surrounding area offer many opportunities for excursions.
A highlight is Schloss Altenstein with its beautiful landscape park (Models 46, 67).
Concerts are held in the nearby Altensteiner Cave.
