68 Vineyard Cottage / Dornburg Castles in Dornburg-Camburg
The Dornburg Vineyard Cottage was built in the mid-18th century.
It served as shelter from rain and sun during social gatherings in the vineyard.
Entering from the hillside door, visitors can look through its four windows, which face the Saale Valley, offering a breathtaking panoramic view.
In 1999, the cottage was reconstructed.
The half-timbered walls and tiled roof were built using traditional craftsmanship.
The walls were filled with rubble stone, maintaining authenticity.
A colored etching by Jakob Wilhelm Christian Roux from 1818, along with the remains of the original walls, guided the restoration’s external design.
To ensure safe access from the castle above, the vineyard staircase was restored and expanded.
With the reconstruction of the cottage on the edge of a rocky terrace high above the Saale Valley, the view from the valley up to the three Dornburg Castles has been beautifully enhanced.
The Dornburg Castles include Models 42, 43, and 44.
