59 Sophienhaus und Park von Schloss Burgk in Burgk

59 Sophienhaus und Park von Schloss Burgk in Burgk

Situated beautifully on the banks of the Upper Saale River, between the Bleiloch and Hohenwarte reservoirs, Burgk Castle is home to historic rooms such as the Knights‘ Hall, Hunting Room, Castle Kitchen, Princely Bedroom, „White Rooms“, and the Castle Chapel with a Silbermann organ.

It also features medieval fortifications and a Rococo pavilion.

From the castle, visitors can descend a stone staircase leading to a path that ends at the entrance to the Sophienpark, located on a narrow rocky ridge.

The park, originally called „Kegelplatz“ in 1744, was redesigned into a French-style garden.

Baroque sandstone sculptures, probably originating from the Greizer Park and created by Johann Wilhelm Rockstroh (1697-1758), can be found in the park.

At the entrance, Diana (the huntress) stands on the left, Venus on the right, and before the Sophienhaus, Mars is on the left and Minerva on the right.

The Sophienhaus itself is an octagonal, single-story pavilion built between 1751 and 1753 in the Rococo style and originally served as a music performance hall.

Concerts are still held here in the summer months.

The castle also offers wedding venues and event rooms.

Various events such as castle festivals, concerts, markets, and services are held throughout the year.
