43 Rokokoschloss/Dornburger Schlösser in Dornburg-Camburg
The Rokokoschloss is the middle and youngest of the three Dornburg Castles.
Starting in 1732, Duke Ernst August of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach had over 21 townhouses demolished and commissioned the construction of the Rococo castle, designed by the royal architect Richter.
However, due to structural flaws, the original castle was torn down and replaced by a new one built by the Franconian architect G. H. Krohne between 1736 and 1741.
From 1776, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe used the castle as the Duke’s Minister.
Between 1816 and 1817, Duke Carl August of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach had the castle renovated.
By 1900, the building was converted into a museum but was closed in 2000 due to structural decay.
The Rococo Castle underwent significant restoration in the following years and has been open to visitors since June 2006.
At the Dornburg Castles, you can embark on a historical journey and enjoy cultural tours.
The annual Rosenfest (Rose Festival) is a highlight, featuring a festive parade.
The Dornburg Castles, along with the park, are part of the cultural heritage and include models 42, 43, 44, and 68.
