39 Orangerie in Gera

39 Orangerie in Gera

The city of Gera, located in the Elster Valley, is a vibrant city that has historically embodied the regional administrative and representative center.

As the third-largest city in the state of Thuringia, it invites visitors to take a stroll through the city, exploring its landmarks and museums.

In the Elsteraue, beneath Osterstein Castle, lies the Küchengarten with the Orangerie.

Commissioned by Prince Heinrich XVIII around 1730, the late Baroque two-winged central pavilion was designed by the princely Saxon master builder Gottfried Heinrich Krohne.

Attached to it is the French, strictly symmetrical garden layout, inviting relaxation and leisurely walks.

Today, the Gera Art Collection hosts changing exhibitions in various genres within the rooms of the Orangerie.

Gera also hosts several annual events, including the Schwarzbiernacht, the fireworks festival “Flammende Sterne,” the Höhlerfest, the Märchenmarkt, and the children’s media festival „Goldener Spatz.“ The Höhler Biennale takes place every two years.
