30 Town Hall in Zeulenroda-Triebes

30 Town Hall in Zeulenroda-Triebes

Zeulenroda has held city rights since 1438 and was fortified accordingly.

A major fire in 1790 nearly destroyed the entire town.

The neoclassical architectural style is evident in the construction of the new town hall (1825-1827), which appears almost urban in scale for its time.

The design for the three-story town hall building was provided by the local stocking manufacturer Christian Heinrich Schopper.

In the center of the similarly neoclassically designed marketplace stands the palazzo-like building, towering over all the other houses by far.

At the center of the building, the Greek goddess of justice, Themis, sits atop the 38-meter-high town hall tower.

The tower is accessible and offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city of Zeulenroda and its surroundings.
