25 Schiller Museum in Bauerbach
25 Schiller Museum in Bauerbach
In Bauerbach, the Schiller Museum commemorates a stay by the great poet during the years 1782/83.
Under the name Dr. Ritter, Friedrich Schiller found asylum with the von Wolzogen family here after fleeing from Württemberg.
Visitors can experience Schiller’s arrival and stay in Bauerbach almost exactly as it was.
In these modest rooms, the poet worked on Kabale und Liebe (Intrigue and Love) and Don Carlos, works he later confessed to have „carried in his heart in and around Bauerbach.“
The former manor house has been turned into a Schiller memorial.
A major restoration of the building and a museum redesign were carried out between 1965 and 1967.
Today, the memorial is part of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
