13 German Toy Museum in Sonneberg
13 German Toy Museum in Sonneberg
The influence of modernity made its mark here.
Thousands of dolls, plush toys, steaming trains, wagons, houses, building blocks, and spinning tops invite visitors on a journey back to their childhood days.
The historic toy city attracts thousands of visitors each year.
A highlight of the museum is „The Thuringian Fair,“ an award-winning masterpiece from the 1910 World Exhibition in Brussels.
This impressive display features almost life-sized figures, vividly depicting the lively atmosphere of a church fairground at the beginning of the 20th century.
For younger visitors, there is a play area for children aged 3 and up, and the library is available by appointment.
A visit to Germany’s oldest toy museum in Sonneberg is a special kind of adventure.
The lively façade of the museum appears to grow out of the ascending street, unmistakably referencing Baroque architecture, while also incorporating Art Nouveau and early modernist elements.
