125 Model of the Liebfrauenkirche in Arnstadt

The model of the Liebfrauenkirche in Arnstadt was built in 2003 at a scale of 1:25 by the Neideckverein with ABM funding.

In 2023, the Neideckverein took over the model and thoroughly renovated it during the winter break.

The Liebfrauenkirche „Zu unseren lieben Frauen“ was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and is the oldest church in Arnstadt.

It is considered one of the most architecturally significant monuments in the city and stands in the western part of the historic town center, right next to the city wall.

The church’s external appearance is dominated by the two west towers and the broad, heavy central tower.

The church is a three-nave Gothic basilica with a richly decorated interior.

It is regarded as one of the most important church buildings in Central Germany from the Romanesque-Gothic transition period, second only to the Naumburg Cathedral.

Until the 16th century, it was the burial site for the Counts of Schwarzburg.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the church fell into disuse and began to deteriorate.

It was restored and neo-Gothically altered in the early 20th century.

From the 1950s to the early 1970s, extensive reconstruction took place.
