10 Luther House in Eisenach
10 Luther House in Eisenach
In the historic old town of Eisenach stands the charming, late Gothic half-timbered house that was once the residence of the Cotta family.
According to an old tradition, Martin Luther found a home here as a young Latin school student from 1498 to 1501.
During World War II, the Luther House was destroyed.
After clearing the bomb damage, the Thuringian Regional Church opened a Luther memorial in the house in 1956.
The exhibition rooms provide visitors with an understanding of the life and work of the great German church reformer.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is Luther’s Bible translation.
His influence on the education and upbringing of the German people has been undisputed for centuries and is honored through this museum.
In September 2015, the renovation of the Luther House was completed.
A completely new and larger exhibition,” Luther and the Bible,“ presents extraordinary exhibits, multimedia displays, and surprising insights.
